Meeting and transnational exchange among 22 young people from all over Europe
Last year, four young educators from the Digital Europe Fellowship developed workshops aimed at promoting democratic values in the digital context. Now our two Fellows Davit Manukyan (Armenia) and Kansu Ekin (Turkey) presented their workshops during the Transnational Training for Trainers (T4T) on the last weekend of April (29. April - 01. May).
A total of 22 young people from different regions of the Understanding Europe network came together in Tsaghkadzor (Armenia) and engaged in exchange. In light of our Fellows' topics "Digital Participation in Local Communities" and "Democracy, Participation and Inclusion in Social Media", the Transnational Training focused on issues such as participation, democratic rights and values in the digital space.
In interactive sessions, Davit and Kansu presented their workshop modules and materials to the trainers. The trainers were also able to learn how to conduct the workshops independently in the classrooms. At the same time, the T4T was also about promoting dialogue and the transfer of experiences among the young educators. With team-building sessions, a cultural evening programme and a day excursion, there were plenty of opportunities to get to know each other. In a keynote presentation, the president of the local Erasmus Student Network (ESN), Nensi Mkrtchyan, shed light on the Armenian perspective on youth participation and digitalisation.
The Digital Europe Fellowship is a joint project of the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and the Understanding Europe education network.
As a transnational education network, Understanding Europe aims to help young people understand (European) political processes and find and share their voice. To this end, young people active in 14 European countries run workshops in general and vocational schools, creating a space for students to discuss democratic participation, (European) politics, the role of the media and other topics of interest to them.
Another training session in the second half of the year will focus on the topics of the current Fellowship series "Thinking of Europe".
